In this 45-minute educational session, members of Bio Ritmo will explore and discuss the roots of salsa dura music and give demonstrations of the different rhythmic patterns and instruments used. They will discuss the importance of the clave, the rhythmic pulse and force behind salsa music, plus show off some dance moves. All ages are welcome! The musicians will also be happy to answer any questions at the end of the session.

Bio Ritmo is an internationally acclaimed 10-piece salsa orchestra that plays original music inspired by classic salsa dura of the 1970’s. Described as “Latin music visionaries,” the band is fronted by Puerto Rican native and award winning song-writer Rei Alvarez, and includes a unique blend of punk rock, jazz, classical and Latinx musicians. Recognized as pioneers of their generation, they have been performing for over 30 years around the globe, including a feature on NPR's Tiny Desk. Their latest double vinyl LP on Peace and Rhythm Records was featured on Bandcamp.com’s “Best of Latin Music” for January 2024.
